Item Description

A set of Six fiddle pattern silver tea spoons by Solomon Hougham, London 1805, each engraved obverse with the Nelson crests surmounted by a viscount's coronet.

Length approx: 175mm / 6 7/8 inches

1. SAN JOSEF crest for Admiral Lord Nelson (1759-1805) with motto ribbon. Arms granted 28 Oct 1797.
2. CHELENGK crest added following Lord Nelson's ennoblement in November 1798 after the battle of the Nile as Baron Nelson of the Nile and Burnham Thorpe, when he was granted an augmentation to his arms.

An Old English pattern silver gravy spoon (£18600) and an Old English pattern silver straining spoon (£21000) similarly engraved with the Nelson crests by Solomon Hougham, London 1802, were sold Sotheby's London, 5 October 2005.
