Item Description

A pair of fiddle pattern silver table forks by William Eley & William Fearn, London 1800, each engraved obverse with two family crests.

Length: 205mm / 8 inches

1. SAN JOSEF crest for Admiral Lord Nelson (1759-1805). Arms granted 28 Oct 1797.
2. CHELENGK crest added following Lord Nelson's ennoblement in November 1798 following the battle of the Nile as Baron Nelson of the Nile and Burnham Thorpe, when he was granted an augmentation to his arms.

Six similar matching silver table forks engraved with both the SAN JOSEF and CHELENGK crests are in the collection of The National Maritime Museum, Greenwich London (PLT0357)
