		a very fine and large 18th century gold ring mounted with a paste portrait bust of General Sir Eyre Coote (c.1726-1783) by James Tassie (1735-1799) on a black background.

		History
Lieutenant-General Sir Eyre Coote, KB was an Anglo-Irish military officer and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1768 to 1780. He is best known for his many years of service with the British Army in India. His victory at the Battle of Wandiwash is considered a decisive turning point in the struggle for control in India between Britain and France.
