A superb gold mounted Georgian hardstone porphyry intaglio.
It bears the arms of the Marquess of Tweeddale,
Lord Hay or descendant of.
Blazon quarterly: 1st and 4th Gules three bars ermine (Gifford of Yester).
2nd and 3rd: Sable three cinquefoils argent (Fraser).
An inescutcheon azure, three inescutcheons argent (Hay).
Intaglio face is 19mm by 16mm. Overall height is 36mm tall
Although on this seal the central escutcheon is further divided.
History
Possibly made for George Hay, 7th Marquess of Tweeddale (1753–1804) or his descendant.
James Hay of Belton born 1786 was a Rear Admiral.
All descendants of Sir John de Haya (14th Century).
