Item Description

A delightful jacobean armorial bookplate for Sir Archibald Grant, 2nd Baronet, of Monymaske. He was the son of a scottish law lord, Sir Francis Grant,Lord Cullen, to whose baronetcy he succeeded in 1725. MP for Aberdeenshire and a largely unsuccessful speculator he was eventually expelled from the House when his partners in the Charitable Corporation absconded. Whereupon he retired to Monymusk (sp?)and planted trees ("The only laudable thing he did" according to David Hume). He married 4 times and died in 1778.

In fair condition and framed in matt black with a cream mount.
