Item Description

A late 18th century armorial bookplate for Edward Mellish.

The Very Rev Edward Mellish, Dean of Hereford, 1767-1830, younger son of William Mellish, MP for Retford, of Blyth, Nottinghamshire. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Rev William Leigh of Rushall,Staffordshire and his son inherited Hodsock Priory, which subsequently passed to his daughter, the wife of the diplomatist Sir Andrew Buchanan (in whose descendants hands it remains).

Condition: Good.

Framed in matt black.
