Item Description
A mid 19th century bookplate for the distinguished banker, mathematician and astronomer, Sir John William Lubbock, 3rd Bart, 1803-1865. A near neighbour of Charles Darwin in Kent and his eldest son (the future Lord Avebury) became a close friend of Darwins.
He married Harriet Hotham and had 9 children. Three of his sons played cricket for Kent, one of whom, Edgar, was also in the old Etonian team that won the FA cup in 1872.
The bookplate is in fine condition and is framed in matt black.
