History

Crest and motto for DICK.

The Dick family descended from William de Dick, the first magistrate in Edinburgh in 1296. Alexander Dick, born in Edinburgh in the 1790s arrived in Sydney as a free settler silversmith in 1824. In 1826 he opened his own business which proved to be a success until he had to serve a term at Norfolk Island, for receiving stolen silver spoons. In 1833 he was granted a free pardon and continued in his business until his death in 1843.

For a similar Worcester decorated porcelain dish see Bonhams Sydney, Lot 31, 18 November 2012.
