Item Description

A superb Royal Worcester plate, with the crest of the Walter Family of Bearwood House, Abbeyford, Berkshire. A beautiful pale blue ground, with a central reserve. “A stork proper, putting its beak into a whelk shell erect, or”. Gently scalloped rim with rich gold highlights.

Bearwood House, built 1865-74, is one of the largest Victorian Houses in Britain, with 90 bedrooms,

The famous “Times” newspaper was founded by John Walter 1st and the Walter family remained proprietors until 1908, when as a company they took the roles as chairmen. The Walter Press was a revolutionary machine, the forerunner of modern newspaper production.

The Walter's built many buildings & churches at their own expense. Also the model village of Sindlesham. John Walter III 1818-1894 was an exponent of the Oxford Movement and also the architecture that it inspired.

Measurements: 10.5 Inches (27cm)

Condition: Excellent, small haircrack to rim.
