Item Description
Much collected, sugar sifting spoons like this example were once used to separate lumps (which had been broken off of a conical loaf) from loose sugar. The theory is that lumps were used in the drawing room at teatime, and the loose sugar was sent back to the kitchen for cooking. These days, sifting spoons can be used for dusting icing or caster sugar over sweeties or fruit (but you must be quick or the countertop and your floor will be covered!) or, they can serve as strainers for loose tea, or for doling out small portions of peas or other things that float in liquid or syrup, like cherries. No need to banish them to the collector's cabinet just yet! This example is a truly elegant affair with beautiful piercing and a gorgeous crest. Aside from two of the marks being rubbed (but legible), there are no issues here. If you need a gift for the person who has just about everything, this is will do you proud.
