Item Description
Beautifully executed struck silver medal by Thomas Simon to celebrate the restoration of the Stuarts to the throne . 1660. Obverse: Bust of Charles II looking right with long flowing hair, broad falling lace collar, armour and mantle tied on the shoulder in a knot. Legend: CAROLUS . II . D : G . MAGNAE . BRIT . FRA . ET . HIB . REX. Reverse: Three crowns on the branches of a leafless oak and above, the sun bursting through clouds. Legend: TANDEM REVIRESCET. (It will flourish at last). This medal, when struck, is generally composed of two pieces of metal (in this case silver), which are united by a broad rim and furnished with a ring for suspension. (See Medallic Illustrations vol. I, p. 453/38).
Condition :-Some surface marks and minor dents but otherwise the images are almost Extremely Fine and lightly toned
