Item Description
Here is a superb Sevres porcelain plate, made for the KHEDIVE OF EGYPT, Is'mail Pasha (Ismail the Magnificent). He ruled Egypt and Sudan from 1863-79 and declared Egypt to be part of Europe. Many improvements were made under his rule. He built the sumptuous Abdeen Palace in Cairo, finished in 1874 at a cost of 2.7 Million Egyptian Pounds. The plate dates from the same period. A 2014 television series dramatises his rule, SARAYA ABIDIN. His monogram can be seen on the many palace gates.
