Item Description

a monumental silver gilt cup in 17th century style with baluster stem on circular foot, frosted bowl with cartouche engraved with the crest and motto HONOR GOD of the Mercers' City Livery Company, foot with presentation inscription: "Presented by the Mercers' Company to Admiral Viscount Jellicoe C.B. O.M. upon his admission to the Freedom. Feb. 1919."

History

Presented to Admiral John Jellicoe, First Earl Jellicoe (1859-1935), Admiral of the Fleet in the First World War and commander of the Grand Fleet at the battle of Jutland (1916).
