Item Description
magnificent silver gilt urn shaped cup and cover with laurel wreath decoration and oak branch handles terminating in applied foliage and acorns, cover with bud finial.
Front of cup applied with figure of Hope resting on an anchor; reverse with contemporary dedicatory inscription.
Contained in original fitted wooden travelling care with retailer label for Rundell & Bridge.
Overall height is 15 1/2" and width 11"
History
Presented to Captain John Gover of the East India Company ship "Glenelg" for leading an anti-piracy mission to the Persian Gulf in 1819-20.
