Item Description
This magnificent sterling silver pitcher was made by the Gorham Mfg. Co. of Providence, RI in 1893. It is fully hallmarked with Gorham’s maker’s mark, style # 5128 and date mark for 1893. The pitcher is of majestic proportions and is finely cast, chased, repousse and engraved with a maskhead spout, and a mid-section with gryphon, putti and Bacchanalian scenes. The handle is cast and chased with floral, acanthus leaf and scroll motifs. The pitcher is raised on an acanthus leaf-capped spreading circular pedestal foot with egg and dart cast border. This pitcher, or wine ewer, is truly a sculptural work of art and would be a conversation piece for any room or collection. Height: 14 inches. Weight: 79 Troy Ounces. Condition: Excellent.
