Item Description
This magnificent Sterling Silver Centerpiece Bowl was made by Tiffany & Co., New York in 1894. It is fully hallmarked with Tiffany’s maker’s mark, pattern number 12215, order number and date letter “T” for pieces made between 1891 and 1902. The dating of the hallmarks leads us to believe that the piece was made in 1894, or very close to that date. The centerpiece is oval in shape with majestic proportions. The shaped center is plain; the rollover rim is pierced with four scroll and floral framed trellis sections, with four solid sections of repetitive scroll and floral design. The bowl is raised on four acanthus leaf decorated paw feet with a bracket form support repeating the rim decoration. During the late nineteenth century, the “Robberbaron” period of prosperity was in full swing. Monumental estates were being built throughout the mid-Atlantic and New England regions in America and beautiful objects were needed to fill the rooms. Tiffany & Co. produced many of the needed suites of silver for the dining and other rooms of the house. This centerpiece bowl of majestic proportions would have been part of a suite for the dining room or entry hall in one of those homes. Today, this piece of American history is available to transform your home into an estate! Length: 24 inches. Weight: 143 Troy Ounces. Condition: Excellent.
