This is an elegant set of 12 sterling silver terrapin dishes originally used to serve terrapin or diamondback turtle soup. Terrapins were a highly prized delicacy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In the 1920’s, with the onset of Prohibition, the liquor necessary for making the soup became unavailable, so Terrapin Soup went out of style. However, today these dishes are desired as collectibles and would be a conversation piece in any setting. Weight: 22 Troy Ounces. Length: 5 1/4 Inches. Condition: Excellent.
