Item Description

This is a beautiful sterling silver basket by a London silversmith in an elegant Rococo design. This large, bateau style basket stands on an oval pedestal base and has a deep bowl with elegant curves and a shaped rim. The bowl has been elaborately pierced with dynamic scroll, flower, and leafy designs in silhouette that frame a central cartouche. The flaring, wavy rim and base are trimmed with a molded border of gadrooning with shell accents. A swing-arm handle also with elaborate pierced scrolls and spiral gadrooned border is mounted to the rim, while two sculpted scroll accents provide a finishing touch to the ends of the basket rim. This basket is in excellent condition and very heavy gauge silver, shows the remarkable quality and craftsmanship of English silver. It measures approx. 12 1/2” high to the top of the handle, approx. 14” long, approx. 8” wide, and weighs 33 troy ounces. It is fully hallmarked on the body and has the maker’s mark of David Landsborough Fullerton. This elegant antique silver basket possesses a timeless beauty that would be treasured for generations.
