Item Description
This is a beautiful sterling silver picture frame by New York silversmiths J.F. Fradley & Co, whose company was started around 1867 by a former apprentice at Wood & Hughes. Executed in the Arts & Crafts style, this rectangular frame has a wide hammered border with engraved floral decoration that trails up and down the sides from each corner. This charming decoration plays very subtly against the hammered surface and produces a rich, shimmering effect. The back of the frame and hinged stand are both covered in blue velvet. It is in excellent condition and is very beautifully made. The frame measures approx. 10 3/4" wide and approx. 13 3/4" high. The interior opening measures approx. 8 1/2" wide x 11 1/2" high. It is marked on the bottom with Fradley’s maker’s mark and pattern number 2137HA. The large size of this very handsome antique picture frame makes it particularly decorative, an excellent gift for any occasion.
