This is a lovely and unusual sterling silver over 15K gold pendant brooch in the Victorian design of a winged insect set with magnificent stones. The bisected gold body of the insect is set with two large rubies, the lower part surrounded by a frame of small light blue spinels, and has small demitoid garnets for eyes. The sterling silver wings are intricately formed in lace-like pieces set with diamond chips and ball-like accents that add additional sparkle to the piece. The tips of the wing are in gold and each is set with a sapphire solitaire. The different colors and textures in this piece make this whimsical design come to life. This brooch measures approx. 1 1/2” high and approx. 1 3/4” wide, and has a simple hinged pin clasp on the back and a loop for hanging. This antique pendant brooch is a fine example of late nineteenth century American jewelry and is a collectible design executed with fine detail.
